Fishing Lake Taneycomo isn't your average trout experience. This tailwater fishery is cold and clear, which means the fish can be picky. But don't worry, Captain Rick's got the tricks up his sleeve to get them biting. You might find yourself drifting with light tackle, tossing small jigs or flies to mimic the trout's natural prey. Or maybe you'll try your hand at trolling with crankbaits that drive the big browns crazy. Rick's always got his finger on the pulse of what's working, so be ready to switch it up if the fish are being stubborn. And here's a pro tip: keep your eyes peeled for any changes in the water – those subtle rises could be your ticket to a trophy catch.

Rainbow Trout: These feisty fighters are the bread and butter of Lake Taneycomo. Known for their acrobatic leaps and speedy runs, rainbows here average 12-16 inches, but don't be surprised if you tangle with a 20-incher. They're most active in the cooler months, but Captain Rick knows how to find them year-round. Rainbows love to hit small jigs and flies, and when they're on, the action can be non-stop. There's nothing quite like seeing that flash of pink and silver as a rainbow comes to the net.
Brown Trout: Now we're talking about the lake's heavyweight champs. Lake Taneycomo is famous for its trophy browns, with fish over 20 pounds not unheard of. These clever predators are a bit more challenging to catch, which makes landing one all the sweeter. They're most active at dawn and dusk, often cruising the shallows in search of a meal. Captain Rick might have you tossing big streamers or crankbaits to entice these monsters. When a big brown hits, hold on tight – you're in for the fight of your life!

We had a great trip today with Rick! He met us at the dock and was well prepared. He never let us sit without bait or hook. If our bait came off, he handed us another rod while he was putting bait on the other one. He was great with our teens and wanted to make sure that it was a trip they would remember. We never had to take a fish off the hook. This was our first guided trip, and we were very impressed. We would highly recommend him to anyone wanting to have a great time.

Brown trout are a real treat to catch on Lake Taneycomo. These fish typically run 8-24 inches, but can get up to 39 inches if you're lucky. They like cool, clear water and you'll often find them hiding near rocks or in deep pools. Fall is prime time, as they feed aggressively at night. These trout put up a great fight and are known for their cunning nature. Anglers love targeting browns not just for the challenge, but also for their delicious taste. If you're fly fishing, I'd recommend using a crawfish imitation - browns can't resist 'em. For spin fishing, small spinners work well. Just remember, patience is key with these smart fish. They're wary, so a stealthy approach often pays off. Whether you're a seasoned pro or a first-timer, landing a brown trout is always a satisfying experience.
Rainbow trout are the bread and butter of Lake Taneycomo fishing. These beauties usually range from 8 to 24 inches, with a pink stripe that gives them their name. You'll find them in the faster currents, often near gravelly shorelines or in downstream flows. They're active year-round, but spring and fall are particularly good. Rainbows are known for their acrobatic jumps when hooked, making them a blast to catch. They're also great eating fish, with a mild, slightly nutty flavor. For the best luck, try fishing during their feeding times at dusk or late evening. A local trick: use a nymphing technique with your fly rod. Keep your bait off the bottom and try drifting an artificial lure. Rainbows aren't as wary as browns, so they're perfect for anglers of all skill levels. Trust me, hooking into one of these fighters will have you grinning from ear to ear.
