Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned angler, this outing is all about putting you on the fish and making sure you have a blast doing it. Rick's been fishing these waters for years, and he knows exactly where those trophy rainbows and browns are hiding. So grab your hat and let's hit the water!
When you hop aboard with Captain Rick, you're in for a treat. This isn't your average float trip - it's a focused, hands-on fishing experience tailored to your skill level. Rick provides all the gear you need, from rods and reels to the latest in trout-tempting tackle. He'll show you the ropes if you're new to trout fishing, or help you fine-tune your technique if you've been at it for years. The beauty of Lake Taneycomo is its year-round fishing, so no matter when you visit Branson, the trout are biting. Expect to learn about reading the water, spotting fish, and the best presentations to get those trout striking. And don't worry about handling the fish - Rick's got that covered too, ensuring a safe catch and release if that's your preference.
On Lake Taneycomo, versatility is key. You might start the day trolling near the dam where the big ones often lurk, then switch to casting near the banks or structure. Rick's a master at reading the conditions and will have you jigging soft plastics one minute and drifting live bait the next. He's always got a few tricks up his sleeve, like using scented PowerBait or tying on a secret fly pattern that the Taneycomo trout can't resist. The lake's cold, clear waters from Table Rock Dam create the perfect habitat for trout, and with Rick's guidance, you'll be working different depths and techniques to find where they're feeding. It's not just about catching fish - it's about learning skills you can use on your next solo trip.

Rainbow Trout are the stars of Lake Taneycomo. These feisty fighters are known for their acrobatic leaps and powerful runs. Averaging 12-16 inches, with some monsters pushing past 20, rainbows in Taneycomo grow fast thanks to the cold, nutrient-rich water. They're most active in the cooler months, but with the right technique, you can catch them year-round. Rainbows here are a blast on light tackle and will test your skills, especially when they're keyed in on tiny midges or scuds.
Brown Trout are the trophy hunters' dream in Taneycomo. These clever predators are more challenging to catch but well worth the effort. Browns in this lake can grow to impressive sizes, with some topping 20 pounds. They're most active during low light conditions, so early morning or evening trips can be magic for hooking into one of these beauties. Captain Rick knows the deep holes and undercut banks where the big browns hide, and he'll show you how to present your bait or lure to tempt these wary fish. Landing a Taneycomo brown is a true achievement for any angler.

Whether you're looking to fill the cooler with tasty rainbows or chase that wall-hanger brown, Rick's got the know-how to make it happen. We had a great trip today with Rick! He met us at the dock and was well prepared. He never let us sit without bait or hook. If our bait came off, he handed us another rod while he was putting bait on the other one. He was great with our teens and wanted to make sure that it was a trip they would remember. We never had to take a fish off the hook. This was our first guided trip, and we were very impressed. We would highly recommend him to anyone wanting to have a great time.

Brown trout are a prized catch here on Lake Taneycomo, typically ranging from 14-20 inches. These fish love cool, clear water and hang out near structure like submerged logs or rocky areas. Fall is prime time for browns as they get aggressive before spawning. Anglers love targeting them for their challenging fight and tasty flesh. You'll often find browns in deeper pools during the day, moving to shallower runs to feed in the evening. When fly fishing, I've had great luck using small nymphs or streamer patterns that imitate baitfish. Remember, browns can be shy, so a stealthy approach is key. Make your first cast count – these smart fish often wise up quick if they sense something's off.

Rainbow trout are the bread and butter of Lake Taneycomo fishing. Most run 12-16 inches, though we see some real lunkers pushing 20+. These guys prefer cooler water, so they'll move deeper as summer heats up. Spring and fall are fantastic seasons to target rainbows when they're actively feeding. Anglers love 'bows for their acrobatic fights – they'll often leap clear out of the water when hooked. You'll find them in riffles, pools, and near current seams. They're not picky eaters, hitting everything from small nymphs to larger streamers. One local trick: try drifting a small scud pattern near the bottom. Rainbows can't resist these little crustaceans, especially in off-color water after a good rain. Just remember to keep your drag set light – these fish have soft mouths and can throw the hook easily.
